Iron Wings Twilight: Pau Chung Street 1991.The old tenement buildings in To Kwa Wan are meticulously drawn with a needle pen. The faded red signboard of Tien Chu’s Soya Sauce Factory stands side by side with the billboard of “Joy Bill”. Mismatched tea restaurants, while iron eateries and car dealers’ shops adorn the narrow street. Watercolors smudge the orangey yellow twilight and the distant flying Cathay Pacific passenger aircraft. The shadow of its iron wings covers the faded canvas canopy of the National Products Company. Rusty license plates, old stains and miscellaneous items exude an atmosphere of its time. Scents from the car repair shop on the corner and the evening steam from the tea shop intertwine in the setting sun, solidifying the scent of the steel forest of the old district and the warmth of the neighborhood coexists.
