Still Life of Flowers in a Glass Vase was painted in the early 17th century by Flemish artist Jan Brueghel the Elder. With meticulous precision, Brueghel gathered flowers from different seasons—tulips, roses, irises, daffodils, and lilies of the valley—into a single transparent glass vase. Set against a dark background, the blossoms glow with vivid color, while reflections on glass and water reveal the artist’s mastery of detail. Known as “Flower Brueghel,” he was one of the pioneers of the European flower still life. In this work, his scientific observation and poetic sensibility intertwine, capturing both the splendor of nature and the quiet passage of time.
