Miss Moonlight
$19.99
Created in 2020, Miss Moonlight is one of Yoshitomo Nara’s most contemplative large-scale works, painted in acrylic on canvas and measuring 245 × 222 cm. The painting presents a young girl with closed eyes, her face illuminated by a soft, golden radiance that recalls the quiet glow of moonlight. The image exudes a sense of stillness and introspection, inviting viewers into a space of inner reflection. Exhibited for the first time at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo as part of the landmark exhibition STARS: Six Contemporary Artists from Japan to the World, and later shown in Taipei, the work has been described as carrying a spiritual resonance comparable to the meditative intensity of Mark Rothko. For Nara, Miss Moonlight embodies a turning point: a painting born from a state of calm and detachment, representing not striving or struggle, but a moment of rest, clarity, and luminous peace.
